What's Karl Rove's October Surprise?

Republicans are an ambitious group of fellas. They'll stop at nothing to get elected and they'll let no one get in their way. So when Karl Rove brags about having a secret plan, an "October Surprise", that will guarantee Republican control of both houses of Congress, you gotta wonder - what's he got up his sleeve?

From therawstory.com:
"In the past week, Karl Rove has been promising Republican insiders an 'October surprise' to help win the November congressional elections," reports Ronald Kessler for Newsmax.

[...] A few weeks ago, another conservative publication, The American Spectator, reported that White House staffers had "been talking up the possibilities of an 'October Surprise' or two leading into the mid-term elections."

"They say the President feels confident he can still play a role in the election, that he intends to campaign hard for Republicans, and that on the policy front, there are a couple of issues that can be used as wedges along the way," according to a column written by "The Prowler."

I've come up with a few ideas of my own, but enough about me. This is about you! Here's your opportunity to predict what Rove's "October Surprise" might be - and not just because you think you're spot on, nope. There's a $1000 prize to the person who guesses right. Really. I'm not kidding.

Here's how it works: Post your guess in the comments section here - no guess is too outrageous, remember we're predicting how low the Republicans will go to win the November elections. Will they send soldiers into Iran to "fight terror"? Well, that's almost too easy. Perhaps Osama bin Laden will be captured? Or maybe the US will have to invade Iran to catch Osama bin Laden! Now that's creative thinking. Anyhow, you have until midnight September 30th to post your guess.

Then we all get to sit back and see what unfolds. How will you know if you've won? Well, I'm asking a few political savvy friends to help me judge this contest. The most Rovarian event occurring before the election will be the winner. The winning event will be posted on this site by midnight Nov. 7th. If you guessed correctly, you win $1000. If more than one person guessed correctly, the first post wins. So post your Karl Rove October Surprise prediction now!

And remember: On November 7th, vote for your Democratic candidate. Anything less is unpatriotic.

Good Luck!

My vote for Rove's October Surprise is ... wait for it ...

The White House will announce the capture of Osama bin Laden! (right, not much of a surprise but hey, it will make big headlines)

The twist that will seal the election is that they will claim that this was made possible either by wiretaps or "alternative" interrogation methods. This way, they get to make us all feel safer ("we have the monster") and take away our civil rights at the same time! That's the brilliance of Rovian politics.

[as a side note, I've had numerous bets for a while now that either they already have him and are keeping him in one of their 'secret' prisons, the Pakistanis have him (same deal), or more probably the Pakistanis have him under close surveillance so they or the US can pick him up when the time is ripe.]

They will begin impeachment proceedings against President Bush to gain the public's support. Since Democrats will start those proceedings anyhow, and Bush is useless in helping people get elected, this will mobilize his remaining supporters and pin the Republican failures blame on Bush. Then they can chew him out publicly and show how far from him they all are increasing their chance of getting elected.

They'll capture Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Keith Olberman and whisk them of to secret prisons as enemy combatants while giving notice to anyone aiding the terrorists by assailing the administration.

perhaps they'll capture him dead, because he's been dead for awhile (?)

Osama is dead.
Or, I have to agree with bullitnutz, some kind of Iran Tonkin Gulf thing.

I think Bush will announce some terror attack has been stopped somewhere in the US, perhaps a state where Repubs are losing in.... mmmm.... Cleveland would be a guess, but definitely, in the US.

I go back and forth about whether ObL is alive or dead and what the consequences will/would be to his death (the whole martyrdom thing and all). Sometimes I think they'll "capture" him but he'll die in the firefight, sometimes I think they'll "discover" that he's already dead. I have a harder time believing they'll take him alive as I think ObL would rather become a martyr than be a prisoner.

Ya - I think at this point, Karl's going to have to do something drastic. It's not looking good for them - the Foley cover up scandal is snowballing and evidence is mounting that Rice lied about a meeting, prior to 9-11, warning of an imminent attack from Al Queda. She's a liability.
Rice is now in the Mid East - Do you think the incident that will spark Karl's Iranian invasion might be an assassination attempt on Rice? It serves two purposes - creating sympathy for her, and anger towards those responsible... Iranians, of course.

Ah, it's interesting that nothing at his point would surprise me - my opinion of the Republican leadership is at an all time low.

Karl Rove will announce that he's changed parties and is now a Democrat sometime in October!
